Introduction

Below is information about several artefacts that have been identified as being from the second collection but cannot be matched by the project researcher to entries in the catalogue held by Cambridge University Library [CUL]. However, it is always possible that these items were in fact acquired after 1900 by one of Pitt-Rivers' descendants (this is particularly true of the items acquired in 1975 by Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum. Note also that those items at S&SWM which are dated clearly to before 1885 are possibly some of the agricultural artefacts withdrawn from the founding collection, see here for more information

Items from the catalogue of an art exhibition held in the Larmer Grounds in September 1895 which were exhibited by Pitt-Rivers but not listed in the catalogue of the second collection:

3. The Grey Mare and Colts, Gorwell, Dorset. By Mr F. Whitehead. Exhibited by General Pitt-Rivers. This does not appear to be listed in the Pitt-Rivers' family art catalogue. Probably Frederick Whitehead (1853-1938) an English landscape artist. See here for wikipedia entry.

8. 'Street in Cerne Abbas'. By Mr. Yeend King, R.I. This does not appear to be listed in the Pitt-Rivers' family art catalogue.

9. 'The Manor House, Cerne Abbas'. By Mr. Yeend King, R.I. This does not appear to be listed in the Pitt-Rivers' family art catalogue.

10. 'The Mill Stream, Cerne Abbas, Dorset'. By Mr. Yeend King, R.I. This does not appear to be listed in the Pitt-Rivers' family art catalogue.

186. Silver Kabyle Brooch from Algeria. Exhibited by General Pitt-Rivers.
